Jade Rollers: What They Are And How To Use It

Jade rollers have been having a moment, so let’s talk about it. You’ve probably heard about them already, but like what do they even do, do they work or is it just a bunch of woo woo that ‘insta influencers’  are feeding us?

Jade rollers have been a part of Chinese beauty rituals  for centuries to help maintain body fluid. It’s like a mini handheld, face massager. In the last year, they have gained popularity in the US for their beauty benefits.

What It Does:

Some of those benefits include reducing wrinkles + fine lines (eh not sure I believe this one), increasing circulation, helping with lymphatic drainage, face puffiness and under eye swelling.

(Also if you’re into crystals, jade is associated with protecting against negative energy, reducing anxiety and fighting fatigue – so like good vibes, right?)

Lymphatic Drainage:
Rolling it on your face’s lymph nodes stimulates your lymphatic system which helps detoxify the body, promotes healing and reduces headaches

Increase Circulation:
Since it’s a massage for your face, it not only feels good & relaxing, but it also helps increase circulation in your face. Good circulation = good skin

No More Mrs. Puff
Just like your body, your face can get “bloated” when there is excessive water stored, so being able to massage the lymphatic system helps reduce swelling and inflammation

How To Use:

The tool usually has one larger stone for the cheeks, jaw and forehead and a smaller stone for under the eyes and around the mouth. I like putting on either a serum or moisturizer on before rolling. You’ll want to apply gentle pressure and roll from the center of your face in upward and outward motions. I try to go over each section 3 times. I’ve noticed sometimes I get a little bit of a drip/tickle in my throat (lymphatic drainage??) so I like to roll downwards on my neck so it doesn’t feel stuck, if that makes sense?

Final Thoughts

I’ve been using my jade roller for a couple of months and, tbh, I love it. I am also a bit into the woo woo, crystal shit, so maybe that has something to do with it.  Even if you aren’t into that stuff, it does feel good (I mean it’s a face massage) and it’s relaxing. The jade stones are typically cool to touch, but for an even colder sensation I like to keep mine in the fridge.  I mostly use it when I’m feeling congested or if my face is looking bloated in the morning, especially after a night out. I also like to bring it with me when I travel to help with post flight puffiness.

Soooo at the end of the day, it only costs around $10 depending on where you get it from, it adds to my self-care ritual and makes me feel ~zen~, so I’m here for it.
